Sushi, Wasabi – Simply Naniyori

 Published on 08/07/2016

When it comes to Japanese cuisine not everyone has the friendly approach to it as I or most of the people I know do. Some have the palette for escargo (snails) and some have the palette for some sashimi and sushi. I go for the latter option as it just blends well with soy sauce and wasabi.

So you love sushi…but sometimes the price tag that comes with it may not suit your wallet. And that’s where Naniyori comes into play. Naniyori (translates to ‘Best’) is the Japanese Restaurant located on the second floor of the Steamboat restaurant (Nawala branch). As the name itself describes it, they do serve some of the best dishes as well as one awesome wasabi that sends your senses literally sky rocketing to space and back. I do recommend adult supervision when trying out this wasabi with ginger (ones who are very new to wasabi) and the ones who likes to take a risk…go for it!

Speaking of the restaurant, they revamped and brought it to a bigger space for its patron customers and they have the pleasure of choosing to sit in the Tatami Dining area (sitting on the floor) or the modern way (dining at the tables) or if you want an intimate setting, you can take in the private dining room.

Now moving on to the food, my all time favourite experience has been their Naniyoir Sashimi Boat. It indeed is a perfect starter. You get 11 pieces of Salmon, Tuna, Mullet and Cuttlefish all for the price of Rs. 1040 served in a cute little boat. If you want to indulge on individual dishes you can orden Ika, Salmon, Magura (Tuna), Ika (cuttlefish) or the Moriawase (11 pieces of assorted raw fish) that range between Rs. 949 to Rs. 1000 upwards.

You can choose the same assortment in the grilled category starting from Rs. 290 upwards. Sushi, everyone loves it. You can choose from Ebi Maki (Prawns), Teriyaki Chicken Maki (Grilled Chicken), Kani Maki (Crab) or Tekka Don (Tuna) which start from Rs. 690. There are 10 pieces served in each dish which is ideal for sharing when you come in groups or if you are sushi addict, you can eat them all on your own. Something I recommend you to try out is the Salmon Avocado Maki (Rs. 970) and the California Maki which is Avocado, Omlette & Cucumber (Rs. 640). If you got a friend who is changing into the vegetarian scene, they can enjoy Yasai Chirashi Sushi or Yasai Maki or the Pasali Tempura (Battered Fried Parsley). There is also the Negi Age Tofu (Deep Fried Tofu with Japanese Sauce), Yasai Itame (Pan Fried Vegetables), Kakiage Tempura (Batter Fried Shredded Vegetables) starting from Rs. 590.

Now I do love my share of some thick curry and little bit of rice on the side. If you are like me, then you will love the Katsu Don Chicken (Deep Fried Crumbed Chicken Fillet on Rice) which is served with steamed rice and bowl of vegetable curry – all for Rs. 570.

Reading all this sure does get one hungry for another round of Japanese :).

The restaurant is open from 11am to 3pm for lunch and 6pm to 11pm for dinner. So tummies rolling for some sushi rolls then call on 0777300307/0777300306 for reservations or 011 280-6806 for delivery and take away. You can also log on to their website or facebook profile to check out their Delivery Menu so you can have Sushi at the comfort of your own home.

Right now there is also a promotion that is going till July 27 where you get a 30% off voucher for ‘dine-in’ and bills over Rs.1,500. Also every last Sunday of the month…there’s an all you can eat Japanese Buffet for just Rs. 2,000 per person. So don’t miss out on this great deal…make your reservations now!
